Personalized Notecard Techniques
Notecard
Embellishing

Notecards can be embellished
or decorated using a variety of different materials such as card stock,
pictures, flowers, buttons, ribbons and beads. Rubber stamping can
also be done for further decoration. Embellishing notecards is
similar to scrapbooking.

Paper
Filigree or Quilling

In Paper Filigree, thin
1/8" strips of colored paper are
wrapped around a special tool & then uncoiled and molded gently to form a variety
of shapes and designs. Paper Filigree dates back to the Renaissance
era when these thin strips of paper were wrapped around goose quills hence
the name Quilling. The designs I've created have been glued onto a notecard,
gift tag or bookmark. Elaborate pictures can also be created using the
Paper Filigree technique.

Silk
Ribbon or Rococo Embroidery

Silk Ribbon Embroidery
became popular in France in the mid 1800s. It began to appear on
dresses when the wife of Napoleon II, Princess Eugenia, wore gowns that
were covered with silk ribbon embroidery. Designs are embroidered onto cloth using silk ribbons. Designs generally include
leaves and flowers. I have mounted the embroidered cloth onto a
special notecard. These are suitable for use as notecards or can be
framed.

Teabag
Folding or Kaleidoscope Folding

Teabag Folding is a form of origami
that originated in the Netherlands. Eight tiny identical squares of designed
paper are cut and folded into intricate rosettes and
medallions. It is also known as kaleidoscope folding or
miniature kaleidoscope origami. It is said that it's called Teabag
Folding because historically tiny teabag papers were used to create the
designs. I have glued these
rosettes and medallions in various layers
and designs onto a notecard.

Iris
Folding

Iris Folding is a paper
folding technique that originated in the Netherlands. Thin strips of
papers (generally Origami papers) are taped into a specially cut out template to form designs with
depth. Holographic paper can be used for the center of the
iris. This technique is called Iris Folding because the center of the design
looks like the iris of an eye or camera. The iris cut out has been
glued to a notecard.

Kirigami

Kirigami is an ancient paper
cutting and folding technique that originated in Japan in the early 1600s.
Thin papers are
folded in half and designs are cut out of the folded papers to form a variety of
patterns and designs. Each half must be identical in Kirigami.
Some Kirigami designs have ancient ceremonial purposes and are known only
to Shinto priests. These notecards are created by gluing Kirigami
designs onto a notecard.

Gwiazdy

Gwiazdy is a paper cutting
and folding technique from the Kurpie and Lowicz regions of Poland. Papers
are folded into eight pieces and designs are cut out carefully so that the
whole Gwiazdy cutting remains in one piece. These cuttings look like
snowflakes but have eight sides not six. Gwiazdy means stars in Polish.
